here’s info on my flyers so far for my advocacy project, tried to upload the flyers but I don’t think it was working correctly : (on the flyer, the set up is two columns, one with mtv teen mom facts, the other with non-reality star teen mom facts). *The flyers are complete and the next phase of my project will be getting them out there to the public (most notably high schools).
MTV Teen Moms:
- Make $60,000-65,000 and episode
- Are able to use money from Teen Mom appearances to buy boob jobs, houses and cars
- Are in serious/committed relationships
- Receive magazine cover offers
- Make $280,000 a season
- Gain popularity on social networks
Teen Moms Not on MTV shows:
- 8 out of 10 fathers in the case of teen pregnancy don’t marry the mother of their child and these absent fathers pay less than $800 in annual child support.
- 79% of teenagers who become pregnant are unmarried
- For the past decade, Hispanics females and Non-Hispanic black females have shown the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the U.S while Non-Hispanic White females rank as one of the lower ethnic groups.
- Approximately one-quarter of teen mothers go on welfare within 3 years of the child’s birth.
- Teen pregnancy cost the U.S $9 Billion annually
- Two-thirds of families begun by a young unmarried mother are poor
- Only thirty-eight percent of mothers who have a child before the age of 18 obtain a high school diploma
- Teen mothers are less likely to complete the education necessary to qualify for a well-paying job
- The United States is the only nation with reality shows about teen moms. The U.S also has more teen mothers than any other country in the world.
